Ana:

I'm here to tell you, if you're a service-based

Ana:

business, forget about Facebook.

Ana:

Just Google is probably good for you.

Ana:

Take a little bit of a closer look to compare the ones that are running

Ana:

Facebook versus the ones that aren't and how their Google Ads are doing.

Ana:

Even if you have limited budget, we are finding that it's.

Ana:

A good idea to run Facebook and Google at the same time.

Ana:

Hey everyone.

Ana:

Regina here with Solutions eight.

Ana:

Today I wanna talk about Facebook ads versus Google Ads.

Ana:

Which ones should you run or both, or neither?

Ana:

I work with uh, smaller budget clients, so anyone with $5,000 or less solutions

Ana:

eight doesn't take clients under 5,000.

Ana:

So we have a sister agency called Starter p c that I head up and we take anyone

Ana:

who uses a budget of $5,000 or less, and.

Ana:

In that world, I often get this question of, should I run Facebook?

Ana:

Should I run Google, or should I run both?

Ana:

And the reason why this comes up is because oftentimes these are

Ana:

newer businesses people that are just starting out and they're,

Ana:

they're not sure where to invest.

Ana:

They're very limited funds.

Ana:

I'm here to tell you, if you're a service-based business,

Ana:

forget about Facebook.

Ana:

Just Google is probably good for.

Ana:

If you're an e-commerce store that sells to consumers,

Ana:

even if you have limited budget, we are finding that it's a good idea to.

Ana:

Run Facebook and Google at the same time.

Ana:

The two types of ads are completely different animals, and they work

Ana:

really well side by side when they're both run at the same time.

Ana:

I often get pushback from clients who are like, but I don't wanna run Facebook.

Ana:

I already tried Facebook.

Ana:

It didn't work.

Ana:

I want Google to work instead.

Ana:

Well, Google might not work without also running Facebook, and Facebook might

Ana:

not work without also running Google.

Ana:

, and I'm just gonna talk about the basics of kind of why that happens.

Ana:

So if you think about the two different types of ads we've got social media feeds

Ana:

on the one hand where people are browsing, they're scrolling through, they're looking

Ana:

for images of their friends, whatever.

Ana:

They see an ad, it's very image-based.

Ana:

It's very.

Ana:

Video based.

Ana:

Facebook can also have shopping ads, but still it shows up in the feed, so

Ana:

it literally gets in front of their face as it, they're scrolling by.

Ana:

They're not looking for it.

Ana:

And yet it's right there in front of them.

Ana:

So Facebook does a really good job at getting in front of people, and

Ana:

because of that it does a really good job at like impulse clicks.

Ana:

And because of that, it gets really cheap website visitors to the site.

Ana:

Okay?

Ana:

So you can fill up your website with really cheap website visitors and start

Ana:

the initial warming process with those Facebook and Instagram social media.

Ana:

Google is good at finding the people that are looking for you, but it's

Ana:

also really good at remarketing, right?

Ana:

So we can do video remarketing dynamic display remarketing,

Ana:

which is where it shows.

Ana:

. It shows an image of the product that the person was looking at on the site,

Ana:

and that image will follow them around.

Ana:

I don't know if you've ever seen, oh, that purse I was looking at

Ana:

recently just haunts me lately.

Ana:

That's a dynamic.

Ana:

Display remarketing campaign.

Ana:

and you, think, oh my God, that business is everywhere.

Ana:

That brand is everywhere.

Ana:

They must be huge.

Ana:

And it's always in the top of your mind.

Ana:

So Google has a really powerful remarketing engine and proves to

Ana:

the people who saw you on Facebook that you are big and you are

Ana:

everywhere, and you are going to be there when they're ready to buy.

Ana:

So This is what I mean when I say both types of ads are completely

Ana:

different animals, and that's why they work really well hand in hand.

Ana:

Facebook does the initial warming up.

Ana:

Google does the really good remarketing.

Ana:

Google does also the inbound search, obviously, which is, can be good

Ana:

in many industries and in some of the more impulse buy product.

Ana:

they're not looking for you, right?

Ana:

So you can run shopping ads, you can run search ads where people are searching

Ana:

for products and looking for them to buy.

Ana:

But if you're selling an impulse byproduct that no one's looking for, you're

Ana:

gonna have to lean into Facebook and build up a remarketing list on your site

Ana:

that's nice and big so that Google can do the job of converting those already

Ana:

warm leads that you found on Facebook.

Ana:

So unfortunately I don't have a golden ratio for you guys on exactly how

Ana:

much you should spend on Facebook versus Google, depending on the

Ana:

industry, depending on the product.

Ana:

I hope to have more data on this someday, but I'm, expecting it to take about a

Ana:

year before I have anything like that.

Ana:

What I did prepare for you today is, , a handful of clients, maybe like seven

Ana:

or eight clients who some of them are running Facebook and Google, and some

Ana:

of them are just running Google, and I could see that in their Google Analytics.

Ana:

So what I thought we could do is just.

Ana:

, take a little bit of a closer look to compare the ones that are running

Ana:

Facebook versus the ones that aren't and how their Google ads are doing.

Ana:

This at least will give you some data to go off of.

Ana:

You might see a, business and be like, oh, that's similar to what I sell.

Ana:

Okay.

Ana:

They're doing everything right.

Ana:

I'm gonna follow that model.

Ana:

Right?

Ana:

Or vice versa.

Ana:

So let's dive into the data.

Ana:

So here's what I've done.

Ana:

I went to Google a.

Ana:

and I pulled up last month, which was October, and I looked at the

Ana:

source medium because this tells me if they're running Facebook.

Ana:

Okay, so you can see here that Google CPC only brings in in October 3%.

Ana:

Now, keep in mind, none of these numbers are accurate because Google Analytics

Ana:

does not do a great job at attributing.

Ana:

Conversions back to the first click if there were two

Ana:

clicks coming to the website.

Ana:

So, you know, a lot of the direct traffic was probably from Google.

Ana:

A lot of the organic traffic was actually probably from Google

Ana:

paid, et cetera, et cetera.

Ana:

But let's just pretend hypothetically that this is accurate numbers and look at the

Ana:

ratio of Facebook paid versus Google paid.

Ana:

70%.

Ana:

Facebook paid traffic to the website in October versus 3%.

Ana:

Google and this company, by the way, sells jewelry.

Ana:

They sell jewelry in a niche industry.

Ana:

They have a good community to tap into.

Ana:

It's, Christians that they sell Christian jewelry.

Ana:

now if we look at Google Ads for the same month, we can see they spent about 3,300.

Ana:

and their return on ad spend was 2 74.

Ana:

Now I know that this account is hitting their goals.

Ana:

Client is happy.

Ana:

this ratio of spending way more money on Facebook versus Google is working

Ana:

really well for them because they are profitable and they are a growing brand.

Ana:

let's look at the next one.

Ana:

So, This account sells really cool hats for people with curly hair.

Ana:

And so in October I can see that they.

Ana:

Had about 7% of their website users come from Facebook paid 30% from Google cpc.

Ana:

Okay, so almost the opposite ratio, right?

Ana:

We've got way more money spent on Google versus Facebook.

Ana:

Now, if we look in Google Ads for the same date range,

Ana:

they spent about $3,000 in October and the Roaz was 1 34.

Ana:

Now I know that this client is profitable but not super happy

Ana:

with the results of Google Ads.

Ana:

that kind of makes sense to me.

Ana:

This is an impulse byproduct.

Ana:

Even more so than the Christian jewelry, right?

Ana:

This is a product that people don't necessarily know exists.

Ana:

It's kind of a new invention.

Ana:

It's not very common.

Ana:

It might not be something that people are looking for.

Ana:

So I think what I'm gonna say to this client is, Hey, how about

Ana:

you swap the ratio of your spend?

Ana:

Even if that means you have to spend less on Google, that's okay.

Ana:

Spending more on Facebook and spending less on Google right now might be

Ana:

just the thing that you need to make.

Ana:

M e r, which is media efficiency ratio for your business, right?

Ana:

Which is where you look at your total revenue divided by how much you're

Ana:

spending on marketing in total.

Ana:

So you get kind of a return on marketing spend your overall company.

Ana:

It could be that that's the best thing for your MER right now, and if that's what you

Ana:

need to justify growth and scale in your.

Ana:

That's fine.

Ana:

Lower your spend on Google, spend more on Facebook, whatever you need

Ana:

to do to get that mer to go up and to justify that next step in your business.

Ana:

Okay.

Ana:

Moving on.

Ana:

this client sells furniture in October.

Ana:

they were not doing any.

Ana:

just Google.

Ana:

85% of their users from the website came from Google and probably more since

Ana:

Google Analytics does not do a great job of tracking paid ad conversions.

Ana:

So 85% from Google.

Ana:

And let's look inside of their Google Ads account October.

Ana:They spent about:Ana:

And the RO eyes was 50%.

Ana:

because this is a furniture brand, the RO eyes of four 50 isn't quite

Ana:

what they need to be profitable.

Ana:

And so this is not working super well for them, but they are close.

Ana:

I don't know whether to recommend Facebook for this brand.

Ana:

I don't think that furniture is an impulse buy.

Ana:

But it could be that spending a little bit of money on Facebook

Ana:

while still running Google.

Ana:

Can help to increase the conversion rate and just Be everywhere, right?

Ana:

, get those cheap clicks to the website.

Ana:

maybe some of the furniture actually is more of an impulse by item and so

Ana:

you can get cheap clicks to the website that can then be remarketed to by

Ana:

Google to get that conversion rate up.

Ana:

So maybe a little bit of money on Facebook could help for a furniture brand.

Ana:

That's my guess.

Ana:

another furniture brand.

Ana:

So this one sells high-end furniture.

Ana:

Just like the other one.

Ana:

They are not running any paid Facebook ads, high-end furniture,

Ana:

man, that is gonna be tough.

Ana:

Yeah, 87% comes from Google.

Ana:

So,

Ana:

In October, they spent $2,000 and the ROAZ was 432.

Ana:

I know that because this is furniture, this roaz is also not high enough.

Ana:

I think it needs to be if I remember correctly, and it was only 4 32.

Ana:

I would be hesitant to recommend Facebook for this brand only because

Ana:

my fear is that you're gonna get a lot of impulse buys to the.

Ana:

of people then see the price and don't buy.

Ana:

you know, if you're gonna run Facebook, it's going to take more investment

Ana:

to teach the Facebook algorithm who to show the ads to, right?

Ana:

Because Facebook's gonna have to get a lot of irrelevant clicks before

Ana:

it figures out, oh, only these few people actually converted in the end.

Ana:

So those are the only ones interested in high end f.

Ana:

. this is why it's really hard to find like a golden ratio for Facebook versus

Ana:

Google because there's so many exceptions, like this industry versus that industry,

Ana:

this product versus that product.

Ana:

I mean, we just looked at two furniture brands and I had two completely

Ana:

different recommendations, right?

Ana:

So everything has to.

Ana:

Examined.

Ana:

This is not a glitch.

Ana:

I'm interrupting the video you're watching because I need to remind

Ana:

that I know what I'm talking about.

Ana:

If you have questions, comments, concerns, or confessions,

Ana:

hit me below in the comments.

Ana:

And now back to your regularly scheduled program, custom . This client

Ana:

sells outdoor gear Source medium.

Ana:

in October this client, they did not run any Facebook ads.

Ana:

26% of their website traffic came from Google.

Ana:

Looks like they're doing a lot of organic, although some of this

Ana:

also probably came from Google Ads.

Ana:

this account is really not doing well.

Ana:

It's outdoor gear like camping and hiking gear, apparel, tents that sort of.

Ana:

, we have recommended to this client to start running Facebook ads, and

Ana:

I believe she's setting that up now.

Ana:

The roaz in October was only 37%, so we need to get it up.

Ana:

And it could be that Facebook is going to help us get there.

Ana:

obviously we're trying a lot of different things, not just recommending running

Ana:

Facebook ads, or in tandem with Google.

Ana:

, I will let you know that this is a big part of the strategy that we need people

Ana:

on this site who are already warmed up.

Ana:

It's especially gonna be helpful to teach the algorithm who to target because it'll

Ana:

have a body of knowledge to work with.

Ana:

This client sells kids toys.

Ana:

I think that some of this might be paid traffic, I can't tell.

Ana:

I don't think that they're running any, and this is children's toys.

Ana:

78% came from Google cpc.

Ana:

So if we go over to Google Ad Ads account.

Ana:

, they spent $2,000 in October and the ROAZ was 220.

Ana:

So this one seems to be working just fine without Facebook.

Ana:

I think that the client wants a 300% return and we're only

Ana:

giving two 20, but honestly, it's really common to get below 300%.

Ana:

It just depends on the industry, what you can get out of your eyes.

Ana:

And I, think with children's toys, there's probably a good.

Ana:

repeat order rate, and so two 20 is probably a profitable amount.

Ana:

It sounds like, Facebook isn't really necessary for whatever

Ana:

reason in this industry.

Ana:

It could be that adding a couple of Facebook ads can help worth

Ana:

a test, but maybe not needed.

Ana:

This is kids' clothing.

Ana:

Again, I'm not seeing any Facebook.

Ana:

87% came from Google Ads.

Ana:

Let's check their RO.

Ana:

Spent $2,000 in budget and.

Ana:

was 262.

Ana:

Again, maybe kids clothing is kind an anomaly.

Ana:

Maybe Facebook ads are not needed.

Ana:

So they seem to be doing pretty well without Facebook, but I would still

Ana:

suggest testing it in tandem with Google.

Ana:

The problem with Facebook is you need a lot of good video and also

Ana:

images, but mostly video to get those.

Ana:

impulse clicks to the site and start to get people clicking around, looking

Ana:

around, get 'em on the remarketing list, and then hit 'em with a bunch

Ana:

of Google remarketing ads after that.

Ana:

okay, I'm gonna pause there.

Ana:

Thank you for watching.

Ana:

If you also have a budget that's under $5,000 check out starter ppc, I'll

Ana:

put the link in the description below and we would love to work with you.

Ana:

We don't.

Ana:

Anyone away?

Ana:

Well, 99% of the time we, will work with just anyone.

Ana:

There's a few exceptions which is outlined on the website.

Ana:

And yeah, hope to see you there.
